PSA testing and raising awareness of prostate cancer

PSA testing
During 2017, we delivered 17,545 onsite health checks, some of which included an optional PSA test, usually for men over 40 yrs old or with a family history of the condition.  We processed 1,358 tests last year, with 62 of these tests leading to a GP referral for further testing.
The PSA test can help to detect abnormal levels of PSA which may indicate prostate cancer.  PSA stands for Prostate Specific Antigen and is a protein produced by the prostate gland.  A raised PSA does not always mean cancer and further GP advice will be required where elevated levels are detected.  A PSA test alone cannot tell you if you have prostate cancer and in a small number of cases, PSA can occur with normal levels of PSA.
Our testing involves taking blood from the fingertip and the sample is sent to our laboratory.  Results are usually provided within 2 weeks, often much quicker.
If you’d like to talk to us about offering PSA testing onsite at your organisation, contact us via our website, call us on 0800 170 1777 or email team@healthyperformance.co.uk
